Modern Psychedelia Meets Turkish Folk Heritage
The Amsterdam-based Altın Gün has already carved out a glorious path with their Turkish psych-folk. In their now well-known energetic mix, they blend psychedelic rock, funk, synth-pop, and cosmic reggae with the rich traditions of Anatolian folk music. This earned them a Grammy nomination in 2019 for Best World Music Album. At Istanbul Ekspres, they will perform their latest album (2023) ‘Aşk,’ which marks a return to their musical roots.
The album features ten reinterpreted Turkish folk songs, recorded with vintage equipment. It revisits the Anatolian folk rock of the 70s, which was also present in their early records, with the difference that they now perform as a five-piece band. But don’t worry, they haven’t lost their intoxicating vibes and grooves!
Altın Gün is Erdinç Ecevit (vocals and keyboards), Thijs Elzinga (guitar), Jasper Verhulst (bass), Daniel Smienk (drums) & Chris Bruining (percussion).
