Book presentation & conversation

We are pleased to welcome you to De Centrale for the festive presentation of Lumumba’s Dream.
Jacoba Casier, editor of the book, will open the evening. Afterwards, Nadia Nsayi will engage in a conversation with author Sibo Rugwiza Kanobana about the book, Lumumba’s legacy, and its relevance today.
The evening will be musically enriched by the choir Coeur Immaculé de Marie.

65 years after Patrice Lumumba’s historic independence speech and 100 years after his birth, Lumumba’s Dream is being released. What his ideas can teach us today, the latest book by Sibo Rugwiza Kanobana.

Patrice Lumumba, the first democratically elected prime minister of independent Congo, is often portrayed as extremist and intolerant. But those who read his speeches, essays, and letters discover a nuanced portrait of a visionary leader and bridge-builder.
In Lumumba’s Dream, Kanobana sheds new light on Lumumba’s thinking and shows how surprisingly relevant his ideas still are today. The book is also interspersed with Lumumba’s own words.

“Let us forget all the mistakes of the past and only look at the future that smiles upon us.”
– Patrice Lumumba
