THE TIME HAS COME – THE LEGACY OF THE LAST POETS

Inspiration day about activism, art, and the power of words

Experience an inspiring day centered around the revolutionary legacy of The Last Poets. We explore the power of their words and their enduring social impact.

Featuring contributions from keynote speaker Sibo Kanobana, a panel discussion led by Lindah Leah, and interactive breakout sessions, this day uniquely blends art and activism.

In 1968, The Last Poets sparked a revolution, using poetry, rap, hip-hop, and jazz to give a powerful voice to poverty, racism, and inequality. More than fifty years later, they continue to inspire artists and activists worldwide.

During this inspiration day, we reflect on their impressive legacy. How does activism manifest itself today? What role does art play in driving social change? How far-reaching is the power of words, and what can we learn from intergenerational connections in youth work? We also examine how these ideas resonate in professional fields: is an inclusive workplace now the norm? And how do we integrate care and healing into our fight for social equality?

Let yourself be inspired and discover how the words and ideals of the past continue to echo in the world of today and tomorrow.

This inspiration day is organized by De Centrale, VIERNULVIER, UMOJA Student Association, Orbit, Broederlijk Delen, AMAL, ABVV, ACV and Team Mondiaal Gent.

It takes place on the eve of World Poetry Day and the International Day Against Racism at De Centrale.
