Pelikaanstraat, 20 tells the story of the Flemish- Malinese actress Aminata Demba. Aminata follows the footsteps of her deceased father. As an expat, he wound up in the Antwerp diamond sector in the ‘70’s. Now she returns to Mali, in search of her own past and other migratory stories. Through her quest she gets in touch with the current generation twenty-somethings in Mali. She meets ambitious leavers, stayers and returners. Her trip also leads to moving personal stories, confronting moments, but especially but also to insights that will be recognizable for many young people, both in Mali and Belgium, regardless of their origin

After her studies in Paris, a young woman of aristocratic origin returns to her native region, the Sultanate of Damagaran in Niger. In Paris she fell in love with a young man, also from an aristocratic family, from the Emirate of Maiduguri. There are plans to marry, but his proposal is late. During the long wait she talks to her peers about love, marriage and relationships. In this unique film Rahmatou Keïta gives a fresh, quiet look at the Nigerian culture through the eyes of a young girl.
