Parviz Meshkatian (1955–2009) was one of those rare visionary composers and musicians who left a lasting mark on the musical landscape of Iran. His work—rich in emotion, intellect, and social engagement—continues to inspire to this day.
This special tribute concert centers on his musical legacy. Behdad Babaei, a virtuoso setar player and Meshkatian’s nephew and student, returns to the stage of De Centrale. He is joined by Majid Khalaj, a master percussionist with a distinguished career in Iranian music, and Vahid Taremi on the shourangiz.
Together, they perform selections from Bidad, Meshkatian’s groundbreaking and politically charged album from the period just after the Iranian Revolution. The program is complemented by original improvisations in the classical Persian modes Shur, Dashti, and Homayoun—a musical journey full of depth and soul.
