DAITHI RUA

Our man from Ireland

Since January 2017 we organize a free café concert every Tuesday evening in ENTR. And the ever-sympathetic Irish bard Daithi Rua was allowed to take the lead. Daithi Rua (aka David Donegan) is Irish for 'Red David'. The singer-songwriter may have been living in Ghent for a long time, in heart and soul he remains a real Irishman who brings great music to the tradition of other famous Irish singer-songwriters like Andy Irvine, Luka Bloom and Christie Moore. During his initial period in Ireland - late 80s, early 90s, he often played with established Irish artists. In the mid-90s he founded his own band 'Sans Souci' to emigrate to Ghent shortly afterwards and to throw himself 100% on his solo career. Ghent appears to be the ideal base for his tours in Western and Northern Europe. Daithi shared the stage with musical greats such as Clannad, The Waterboys and Kadril over the years. Since a few years he is also the artistic driving force behind 'The Big Folk' N Irish Night 'at De Centrale (3rd edition on Saturday 10 March 2018 with' the Dutch-American trio 'The Lasses & Kathryn Claire' and the Belgian roots pop band GRAVEL UNIT).
