DIY instruments & Heady Soundscapes

Drums, brass instruments, organ, and self-made instruments come together to create an enchanting soundscape. El Khat, named after the ancient Middle Eastern practice of chewing "khat", is a groundbreaking group led by Yemeni-Israeli composer Eyal El Wahab. With an original approach to traditional Yemeni sounds and decades of musical heritage, the group demonstrates what it means to honor and transform one's roots.

In 2019, El Khat began crafting DIY instruments in modest garages, embracing an extremely minimalist philosophy. With this, they created a treasure trove of Arabic melodies inspired by the Yemenite tradition. With two albums to their name and a third on the way, their mission is clear: to transcend boundaries and share the universal language of music as widely as possible.

This is a Middle Eastern celebration like no other. Get ready to dance!!
