Dear music lovers and friends of De Centrale,

On Friday, January 16 at 7:00 PM, we warmly invite you to our annual New Year’s reception, introduced by Hans Martens and Astrid De Bruycker, and followed by a concert by El Gueye!

El Gueye is a Senegalese musician, singer-songwriter, and composer from a renowned griot family with a rich musical tradition. Together with his band, he delivers a unique blend of eclectic fusion that never fails to captivate music enthusiasts. His warm, expressive voice and “tradimodern” melodies take you on an enchanting journey beyond borders and cultures.
His songs speak of love, friendship, and life in all its facets. El Gueye sings in Wolof, and his music is rooted in Mbalax, the rhythmic style born from the traditional sabar percussion of the Serer and Wolof peoples. This rich musical heritage, featuring instruments such as the nder (lead drum), sabar (rhythm drum), and tama (talking drum), forms the foundation of Senegalese music, celebrated for its energy and authenticity.
