Jamaican pop icon Bob Marley became world famous and introduced reggae to the general public. With his band The Wailers, he released several albums in the course of the 1970s and scored many hits, including 'I Shot The Sheriff' and 'No Woman, No Cry'. On May 11, 1981, he died of cancer. A year before his death, the album Uprising was released, including his last world hits "Redemption Song" and "Could You Be Loved".
The Ghent-Ghanaian Afro-reggae band Seekaman seizes the date of Bob Marley's death to organize an annual tribute, each time inviting a different reggae band. This year it is Heartwash, the roots reggae band from Borgerhout around singer King Sillah Ishagha.
Seekaman
Seekaman was founded in 2011 by Abaa Poliwa aka Stick of Moses. In 2014 the first CD 'Truth' was released, a collection of mainly reggae tunes seasoned with quirky influences. Over the years, however, Seekaman's music evolved more and more towards music that is influenced by his homeland Ghana. Afrobeat, highlife, soukous, ... Africa is never far away. Witness to that 'Where is the justice', the second CD that was released in 2017. 'Stick' of course remains a Rastaman in heart and soul, but the majority of the music on this CD excels in originality by uniting various existing and a number of non-existing styles in special catchy songs. A third CD will be released in 2021, 'One father nation'. A Seekaman concert is always a melting pot of ambiance, strength, wisdom of life, but above all of joie de vivre, a true celebration of life! Seekaman played at several major festivals: Copacobana, Kinkop Festival, Colora, Labadoux, Soulshakedown, Ghent Festivities at Sint-Jacobs, Trix, Irie Vibes,...
