LA LETTRE A #02

Intercultural music center De Centrale, Book shop Limerick and social-artistic workshop Victoria Deluxe have been organizing four literary evenings in Ghent every year since 2016. We believe in the absolute necessity of an inclusive and diverse literary field, in which writers and readers from all over the society feel at home. That is why we want to give La Lettre A a stage for the storytellers of today, for the readers of today. With Speak Out Gent, in the autumn of 2018 we will be launching a platform for the storytellers of tomorrow.

Simone Atangana Bekono (1991) graduated from Creative Writing ArtEZ in 2016 with a collection of poems and letters on how the first sparks were visible, which was reprinted at Wintertuin Uitgeverij in collaboration with Lebowski Publishers. She published on De Optimist, Samplekanon and De Gids and performed during the Night of Poetry, the Winter Garden Festival and Read my World. Simone was selected for the Slow Writing Lab and for CELA, a development process for writers and translators in six European countries. One of her stories appeared in Zwart, an anthology of Afro-European literature from the Low Countries. In 2018, how the first sparks were visible was awarded the Poetry debut prize Aan Zee and Simone took part in the Paris residence of Flemish-Dutch House deBuren. At the moment she is working on a novel that will appear with Lebowski.
