Mah Ensemble & Majid Derakhshani

The Mah Ensemble (2006) was founded by tar player and composer Majid Derakhshani (1957).

Derakhshani is acclaimed for his innovative approach to traditional Iranian music, characterized by a new composition style and the use of new instruments. Additionally, he invests in supporting and promoting young Iranian singers. His mentor was maestro Mohammad-Reza Lotfi (1947-2014).

The Mah Ensemble explores the past, present, and future of Iranian music and strives to put this rich musical culture on the global map. The ensemble has already played to full houses in Iran, Europe, and Australia. In Belgium, they performed alongside the legendary singer Mohammad-Reza Shajarian (1940-2020).
