MARSİS ft. CAHİT BERKAY

In May 2016 Marsis is touring Europe together with Cahit Berkay. Marsis interprets music from the Black Sea. Specially for this tour, they found the frontman of the legendary Turkish band ‘Moğollar’, Cahit Berkay, prepared to expand their musical palet  with musical influences from the rest of Anatolia.
Cahit Berkay is, together with his band Moğollar, one of the founders of the Turkish ‘Andalou Rock’ (freely translated ‘Rock from Anatolia’). Besides Moğollar  other music celebrities like als Barıs Manço, Erkin Koray and Cem Karaca expanded this music genre at the end of the 60’s as the Turkish reply to the Western rock music. And quite successful too. They left such a mark on the Turkish (rock)music that they still form an important inspiration to the current generation Turkish Rock musicians. A good example thereof is Marsis and this is why this musical encounter is so unique : the first and current generation Andalou Rock together on one stage!  Marsis does not only sing in Turkish, but in many more other languages that are spoken in the region around the Black Sea.
Music from the Black Sea region is originally fast, rhythmic, stimulating and extremely suitable for dancing. Notable as well is the use of traditional instruments like the kemençe (fiddle) and the tulum (bagpipes).  Marsis always takes his audience on a journey to their beloved native region; spectacular and passionate!!
