Merem are coming back to Ghent to present their debut album which was released in September 2023. Having completed their release shows in Greece in October 2023 spreading their music around they promise a sentimental journey to their musical world, travelling between the East Mediterranean and improvised jazz.
Merem means dreaming with your eyes closed. It is a word created by the band, reflecting their musical journey. They were formed in Rotterdam in 2021 by the musicians Dimitra Metzaki(oud), Giorgos Bereris (piano), Vanessa Kourtesi (vocals), Giannis Vagianos (double bass) and Hektor Remsak (drums).
Their sound is soft, poetic and colorful. They create their own musical world and sound which derives from their common roots, as they all come from Greece, and improvised jazz. Since November 2021 they are performing and touring in the Netherlands, western Europe and Greece. In July 2023 they performed in North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam. Their debut album "Merem" was released in September 2023, getting great reviews. At the moment they are working on new ideas and compositions and they are preparing their second album which will be recorded in 2024.
