MEYAN ENSEMBLE x RÛBERÛ | BEKTAŞİ NEFESLERİ

Bektaşi Nefesleri (Bektashi Nefesleri) is a mystical music evening in which poetry and music merge within the Sufi tradition of Anatolia. Bektashism is a Sufi tradition that took shape in the 13th century around Hacı Bektaş‑ı Veli. Bektashi nefes are devotional songs. The word nefes literally means “breath” or “breath of life” and, in a literary sense, refers to refined poetic texts that are usually performed in a specific maqam (melodic mode) within the Bektashi tradition. Rooted in an oral tradition, these works express themes such as love, tolerance, self‑knowledge, and the search for truth.

Each nefes opens like an inner gateway, where meaning gradually deepens and space is created for stillness and contemplation. In this concert, they are brought to life anew through a contemporary live performance, unfolding into an intense listening experience that reaches beyond the purely musical.

The combination of traditional instruments and voice creates an intimate atmosphere that draws attention to the essence, away from spectacle. Together with the group RûBeRû, the Meyan Ensemble brings the rich tradition of Bektashi nefes to life in a performance where musicality and spirituality intertwine. With refined interpretation and deep respect for the tradition, both ensembles create an intimate and inspired atmosphere that profoundly moves the audience.
