Symphony of the Body // Monica Ruiz Van Hattem (36 min)
With Eduardo Guerrero and Antonio Lizana
Symphony of the Body is a short dance film with (according to de Volkskrant) the “up-and-coming flamenco god” Eduardo Guerrero and singer/saxophonist Antonio Lizana. It is an ode to the body's ability to claim space in the overwhelming architecture of Rotterdam.
Flamenco dancer Eduardo Guerrero and flamenco singer & saxophonist Antonio Lizana challenge each other with their own interpretation of space in rhythms and melodies. “Architecture is frozen music,” said Goethe. If architecture is frozen music, music is melted architecture. Rotterdam Central Station receives various “melted” musical interpretations of its design. It is a soundscape that is sometimes melodic, sometimes abstract and that is close to the station's own sounds.
