Nikos Tsouvalas is a composer and musician with Greek roots that was born and raised in Belgium. From a young age, he had a passion for music regardless of its origin and genre. In Greece, he learned to play the Cretan Lyra, Thracian bagpipes (gaïnta) and vocals. In addition to learning Greek traditional music and instruments, he was also a student at the Secondary School of Arts in Brussels (KHB), where he studied jazz, saxophone and piano. After secondary school, he was accepted in the Royal Conservatory of Ghent (KASK) to study jazz. Three years later. he was accepted to the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp where he is currently obtaining his Master’s degree. Nikos Tsouvalas is known as a versatile musician active in many music genres from jazz and pop to Greek traditional music. He is the co-founder of “To Schima” a Greek traditional music band that is very active in the Belgian Greek music scene, performing all over the country. In 2023, Niko entered a new chapter of his musical journey and professional career, putting to use all past lessons and experiences in order to create his first album composed of his own original songs written in Greek. On the 30th of March 2024, for the first time, the album was presented to a large public during a special celebration in the centre of Brussels called “Ouranos in Concert” culminating with the public release of his first song “Ouranos”. In May of 2024, a second song “o Agonas tou Mousikou” was released. Finally, the debut album called “Ouranos” was released in its entirety in December of 2024.
