SAM SWEENEY & GRACE SMITH + HEDIN & MEIDELL . #FOTM11

Fiddlers on the Move . a folk violin project

Hedin & Meidell

Journey north with Hedin & Meidell, a duo breathing new life into Sweden’s early musical traditions. Their sound is a spellbinding fusion of folk and baroque—where the raw resonance of gut strings and infectious dance rhythms meet the refinement of early music.

Armed with nyckelharpa and baroque violin, Ida Hedin and Johan Meidell craft vivid soundscapes full of color and vitality. Their unique approach and virtuosity have earned them a prominent place in today’s Scandinavian folk scene. Since debuting at the Korrö Festival in 2019, they’ve toured across Europe and released two acclaimed albums: Klockarens musikaliska värld (2023) and Prowinciale (2024).

This is a rare chance to experience the power of minimalism and the depth of tradition in an intimate, unforgettable setting.

Sam Sweeney & Grace Smith

Step into the heart of English folk with two of its most exciting voices: Sam Sweeney and Grace Smith. Their music is steeped in tradition yet brimming with innovation, blending archival treasures, bold new compositions, and fresh interpretations that push the boundaries of the genre.

Sam Sweeney—hailed by Songlines as “Britain’s Premier Fiddler”—is a multi-award-winning artist, founder of Leveret, and former member of the legendary Bellowhead. His acclaimed solo projects, including Made In The Great War, have cemented his place as a defining figure in modern folk.

Grace Smith brings her own creative spark to the stage. Her trio’s 2023 release, Overleaf, earned widespread praise, and she shines in collaborations such as Katie Doherty & the Navigators. As a passionate educator, she’s shaping the next generation of folk musicians.

Together, Sam and Grace form a dynamic partnership—where tradition meets reinvention in a performance that promises energy, elegance, and soul.
