A musical journey with Petra Nachtmanova
A documentary by Stephan Talneau, Germany 2018, 90'
In this highly personal musical quest, musician Petra Nachtmanova (member of the group Telli Turnalar who performs on Sunday) travels all the way from Berlin to Khorasan in Iran with just one question: "Can you teach me a song to take home?".
On her back she carries the legendary instrument that opens all doors and hearts: the saz.
She travels from the streets of Kreuzberg to Istanbul, across Anatolia, over the snowy peaks of the Caucasus and through the dusty desert of Eastern Iran, in search of the origins of the iconic stringed instrument. She meets Bosnian instrument builders, mountain-climbing music teachers and chain-smoking Turkmen who may have invented blues rock.
