Griot Traditions from Mali
Meet three top musicians who grew up in families that uphold the ancient griot tradition. Malian music doesn’t get more beautiful than this. You could certainly call Trio Da Kali a supergroup. Singer Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté is the daughter of Kassé Mady Diabaté, one of the greatest voices Africa has ever produced. Madou Kouyaté is the son of Bassekou Kouyaté, a master of the ngoni (West African lute). And Lassana Diabaté, who sets the artistic direction, is the authority on the balafon (the iconic xylophone with gourd resonators from the griot tradition). An impressive tour de force with an equally impressive trio.
