ULWANDLE LUSHILE - MEETING THE TIDES by Tembisa Jordaan (South Africa, 2020)
Spoken: Zulu / Subtitled: English
During apartheid, the Sokhulu people were forced to leave the coastal areas and banned from fishing, their traditional source of income. Marine biologist Tembisa Jordaan shows how Sokhulu women continue the tradition of sustainable harvesting of mussels and pass it on to a younger generation.
MARCHER SUR L'EAU by Aïssa Maïga (Niger/France, 2021)
Spoken: French / Subtitled: English
Global warming has led the village of Tatiste in northern Niger to a constant battle for water. Every day, 14-year-old Houlaye, along with other children, has to walk many miles to fetch water. This makes regular school attendance virtually impossible. The lack of water forces adults to leave their families every year and cross the border in search of essential food. However, there is a huge water source at a depth of two hundred meters. Drilling a well would bring precious water to the village and improve everyone's life.
