MODAL MUSICAL TRADITIONS OF THE WORLD
Since 1982, the Musical Workshop Labyrinth has been organizing music workshops worldwide, focusing on the modal musical traditions of various cultures and the creative interactions between these traditions. In addition, concerts are organized with renowned musicians.
Labyrinth was founded by the British-Greek musician Ross Daly. The first seminars and workshops took place in 1997 in Athens and gradually expanded to locations in Crete, Cyprus, Turkey, Spain, Italy, and Canada. Since 2024, Ghent, through Muziekateliers De Centrale, has been the first Labyrinth hub in Northern Europe. Following a successful series of workshops and concerts in April 2024, the second edition will take place from October 27 to 30, 2025!
Labyrinth is not only seen as a music workshop, but as a ‘way of life’ deeply rooted in music. The primary goal is to connect people, especially young people, with a creative approach to traditional music styles from different parts of the world. Labyrinth serves as a meeting place for both musicians and students and has gained widespread recognition as a leading force in the field of education in modal and traditional music.
More information about the various Labyrinth workshops will be available soon, so for now...
