Content: This workshop explores the key characteristics of the Afghan musical tradition and covers its complex playing techniques, from melodic ornamentation to rhythmic variations, with a focus on an authentic playing style. Participants will work with a rich repertoire, ranging from folk to classical music, from ghazal to naghma, and North Indian ragas. Special attention is given to rhythmic cycles and improvisational skills. The workshop is also open to other (suitable) instruments and vocalists who are interested in discovering Afghan music.

Bio: Daud Khan Sadozai, born in Kabul, is a master of the Afghan rubab. At a young age, he became a student of Ustad Mohammad Omar, who developed the rubab into a solo instrument. Daud Khan has dedicated his life to preserving this tradition. After the passing of his teacher, he went on to study the sarod with Ustad Amjad Ali Khan in India, with whom he shares deep musical ties. He has received multiple awards, including the Aga Khan Music Award in 2022.

As a highly sought-after artist, he has performed worldwide with renowned musicians such as Jordi Savall, Ustad Mahwash, and Sima Bina, appearing in prestigious venues and festivals. He teaches and gives workshops across Europe and is actively committed to passing on the classical Afghan musical tradition.
