Ablaye Cissoko & Cyrille Brotto . #OdeGand

Sky, Cobalt & Sand at De Centrale

One hails from Senegal, the other from Southern France. Together, they form an enchanting duo that fuses the Mandingo tradition with European folk music. Ablaye Cissoko is a master of the kora—the West African double harp—and a storyteller through and through. His voice carries generations, deeply rooted and full of emotion. Accordionist Cyrille Brotto is a musical polymath with an irresistible drive for discovery and innovation. What unites them is total devotion and musicality at the highest level. Their music vibrates with intimacy and virtuosity, sounding like a serene encounter between tradition and renewal.

The annual musical city festival is once again pulling out all the stops and immersing the city center in a wide variety of sounds. Six trumpets will engage in a dialogue with the carillon of the Belfry during the Entrada. Twenty bagpipes will perform the mesmerizing In C by American minimalist Terry Riley. And back by popular demand: the Symphonic Mob©, where you too can make music under the city pavilion alongside the Flanders Symphony Orchestra.

The OdeGand En Route program invites you on an open-minded musical journey: from traditional Korean music to medieval polyphony. On Saturday evening, we’ll wrap things up with First symphony 'De Gentse' by Jef Neve in a free performance at the Wintercircus.
