PAINTING NIGHTS #8

Painting Nights is your painting studio for one evening in a special place. For this edition we are going to the former Luminus power plant in Ghent. De Centrale, the fascinating culture and meeting place that today resides in and around the Turbinezaal, will open the gates to the industrial caverns of the building on Saturday 17 December. Which corner do you take care of?

Where better to look for warmth during the cold winter months than in 'the central heating of Ghent'? In the 1980s, the generators of the municipal power station at Ham were turned off. Today you will find De Centrale there, a warm and vibrant nest with a lot of attention for the power of diversity. And there, hidden behind the actual concert hall, is the old Turbine Hall. Two floors with gigantic generators and an endless network of pipes: together with many other painters, we will get the brushes out for one evening.

As with every edition of Painting Nights, it's not about the result, but about the pleasure of painting in an inspiring place. Artist Bart Spitaels will take you that evening into his fascination for industrial pearls. He finds inspiration in pipe systems, (whether or not working) machinery or electricity plans, and as a teacher he is happy to look over your shoulder to help you further.
