The Mountain Goats ★ Democrazy

+ Craig Finn (the Hold Steady)

The Mountain Goats do what few bands dare: start over again and again without ever losing their heart. For more than three decades, frontman John Darnielle and his band have built a world of compelling stories, sharp observations, and songs that cut straight to the core. Their music lives somewhere between folk, indie, and literary pop.

With their brand-new 24th studio album, Days, the band turns its gaze to the past. The album revolves around the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, offering a musical reflection on the passage of time and the memories that sometimes remain vivid and sometimes fade away. Produced by John Congleton and enriched by subtle guest contributions from artists including Mikaela Davis on harp and Matt Nathanson, the record wraps melancholy in deceptively uplifting melodies. The result is a richly layered album that unsettles, moves, and cuts deep beneath the surface.

Earlier in 2025, The Mountain Goats pushed their creative boundaries once again with Through This Fire Across From Peter Balkan. What began as a dream of Darnielle's evolved into a full-fledged musical: a story of shipwreck, survival, and the thin line between hope and madness. Grand in both sound and emotion, the album unfolds with cinematic arrangements and guest appearances by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tommy Stinson, and Mikaela Davis.

That ambition translates into pure intensity on stage, from whispered confessions to anthems that have entire audiences singing along. Every concert feels like a conversation between band and crowd, filled with recognition, catharsis, and unexpected humour.

On 13 October, they take the stage at De Centrale. Expect new material, old favourites, and that unmistakable Mountain Goats magic that sweeps you away, moves you deeply, and makes you forget everything else for a while.
