DAITHI RUA

ENTR Musical Kick-off

As of January 2017 every Tuesday night we organize a free café concert in ENTR. And the ever sympathetic Irish bard Daithi Rua may bear the brunt. Daithi Rua (aka David Donegan) is Irish for ‘Red David’. The singer-songwriter may have been living in Ghent for quite a while, but at heart he remains a true Irish man, who continues to bring great music in the tradition of other famous Irish singer-songwriters like Andy Irvine, Luka Bloom en Christie Moore. During his early years in Ireland – end ‘80s, early ‘90s, he often played with established Irish artists. Mid’90s he founded his own band 'Sans Souci', to shortly after emigrate to Ghent and focus 100% on his solo career. Ghent seems to be the perfect operating base for his tours in West and Northern Europe. During the years, Daithi shared the stage with musical greatness like Clannad, The Waterboys and Kadril. Since last year he is also the thriving force behind ‘The Big Folk ‘N Irish Night’ in De Centrale (2de edition on saturday 10th march 2017 with ‘Roots’ and ‘The Helen Flaherty Band’).
