HIDIRELLEZ 2024

Turkish communities around the world celebrate the beginning of spring with Hıdırellez. Hıdırellez is the Turkish name for the Spring Festival, but the tradition occurs under different names in different population groups. Strong Hıdırellez traditions exist among the Roma, in the Balkans and Central Asia, among others, and many Ghent residents with a migration history also celebrate this feast.

Kubat, Icon of Turkish Folk Pop

Kubat is often mentioned in the same breath as Turkish superstars like Arif Sag and Belkis Akkale.

Ramazan Kubat, born on October 4, 1974, in Antwerp, better known as Kubat, is not only a Turkish folk singer and composer but also a pioneer in the use of electronic instruments in his music. His unique style has made him an undisputed giant in the Turkish folk-pop scene. Growing up in Antwerp as a scion of the Kubat family from Emirdag (with branches in Ghent, Antwerp, and Brussels), Kubat initially made a name for himself as a singer at weddings.

But Kubat ultimately followed his calling to Turkey, where he now enjoys great popularity and has sold thousands of albums. Immerse yourself in his enchanting music and be captivated by the master of Turkish folk pop.
