Echoes of Ukraine

Join us for 'Echoes of Ukraine', a unique musical journey bringing together artists from Ukraine, Belgium, Venezuela, Colombia, Kazakhstan and Belarus for an extraordinary afternoon of music, culture and connection.

Discover the richness of Ukrainian classical music, surprising contemporary interpretations, and the vibrant cultural diversity of Ghent.

The internationally assembled United by Bridges Orchestra presents Ukrainian melodies in an intimate chamber music setting.  Alongside a classical programme, Anastasii Kenner, Pal Szomora, and Dirk Brossé will present original new compositions and contemporary arrangements.

This concert afternoon places a special focus on the bandura, a traditional Ukrainian string instrument that combines characteristics of both the lute and the zither. During Echoes of Ukraine, Anna and Svitlana Sonyk will perform a series of unique solos and duets that showcase this remarkable instrument. On Sunday morning, they will also lead a special Diwan Session Masterclass as part of our Music Workshops programme.

After the concert, the audience is invited to enjoy a selection of sweet and savoury Ukrainian delicacies.

Echoes of Ukraine is presented in collaboration with De Centrale, the Sociocultural Association of Ukrainians in Ghent, Kargah (Association for Intercultural Communication, Refugee and Migration Support) and UNESCO City of Music Hannover (as part of the "Sirup" concert series. Sirup supports female artists and serves as a new platform for cross-genre and transcultural sounds).
