The music of Hamraaz is both magical and atmospheric. As soon as you hear the sound, it grabs you and draws you in, hypnotizing you and bringing you into a state of ultimate bliss.
Hamraaz is a duo whose musical power draws from the beauty of modal music, the expressive depth of the duduk and flute, and the rich, vibrant rhythms of the tanbour and tar. Founded in 2021 at Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam, Hamraaz emerged from the artistic synergy between Lucie Lelaurain and Khorshid Dadbeh, who share a common dream: to create contemporary music rooted in the modal traditions of Iran and Armenia.
After years of sharing the stage together, they have built a close musical rapport, enabling them to engage in an intimate dialogue through their instruments. This unique interaction results in a captivating listening experience that deeply moves audiences time and again.
Lucie and Khorshid feel deeply connected to nature and believe that their music reflects its essence. This connection was the inspiration behind the title of their debut album, Abr (which means “cloud” in Farsi), released in 2023. They are currently working on a second album, continuing their exploration of the modal soundscape.
Lucie Lelaurain was introduced to the traditional music of Auvergne at a young age through the transverse flute. Later, she developed a profound love for the haunting sound of the duduk. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree at a conservatory in France, she moved to Istanbul, where she spent two years immersing herself in the world of modal music. She is currently continuing her studies at Codarts in the Netherlands.
Khorshid Dadbeh studied tar, setar, and tanbour in Iran and later earned her master’s degree in music performance at Codarts. After moving to the Netherlands, she became actively involved in promoting Iranian culture and music, integrating her musical heritage through collaborations with artists from diverse traditions.
