THE VIPER CLUB ft. TCHA LIMBERGER

Swinging Through the Golden Era of the Onyx Club

The Viper Club is an extraordinary quartet composed of four renowned international jazz musicians. With diverse interests and an impressive collective background, the group delves into the rich musical history of the legendary Onyx Club. The Viper Club takes us on a musical journey inspired by some of the most captivating, undeniably swinging musicians from mid-1930s New York.

Stuff Smith, along with Joe Venuti and Stephane Grappelli, was one of the big three pre-bop violinists, with many fans claiming he outshone all his 'competitors.' Smith, citing Louis Armstrong as his primary influence, received his musical education from his father and began performing as a child in the family orchestra. His first significant performances and recordings were with Alphonso Trent's Territory Band in the 1920s, but it wasn't until 1936 that he broke through with his own quintet at the Onyx Club, alongside trumpeter Jonah Jones. The violinist moved to Copenhagen in 1965 and remained active until his death two years later.

Tcha Limberger - (BE) - violin & vocals
Jerome Etcheberry - (FR) - trumpet
Dave Kelbie - (UK) - guitar
Sebastien Girardot - (FR) – double bass

Tcha Limberger needs little introduction. As an award-winning multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, he has made his mark in various music genres, from jazz to world and folk. His reputation as one of the foremost interpreters of Carpathian Basin folk music, coupled with his exceptional improvisational skills, has made him a beloved figure in the jazz world.

Jerome Etcheberry may be familiar to some jazz enthusiasts from Satchmocracy, his recent tribute to Louis Armstrong. Therefore, it's no surprise that he is considered one of Europe's most talented contemporary trumpeters.

Dave Kelbie and Sébastien Girardot have earned a solid reputation. Their versatility and craftsmanship have graced stages at global festivals. Tcha Limberger aptly dubs them "The Rolls Royce of rhythm sections."
