Zouratié Koné is a griot, hailing from Bobo Dioulasso in Burkina Faso. He is not only a composer, singer, and musician, but also a skilled craftsman in the making of traditional musical instruments such as the balafon, ngoni, kora, talking drum, and djembé. Steeped in the oral culture of the Bwaba people, this talented musician masters hundreds of rhythms and a wide repertoire of songs from the Mandingo region of West Africa.
Together with The Astral Synth Transmitters he comes up with an expedition into an unusual and futuristic griot music sound. Zouratié's sincere voice, as much as his natural born instrument virtuosity, beautifully clash with the dubbed-out synths, which unite this music like warm fluid water.
Expect multi-styled rhythms, flavoured with the talking drum and a lot of dirty lo-fi tape effects. The compositions drag out the traditional instruments from their ancient-sounding habitat to somewhere beyond. It is hard to grasp where, in time and space, you will find yourself. Precise hints of multiple influences wink into multiple directions while nothing is clearly anchored. You can hear folk-, wave-, dub-, club- & pop-music all confused but relentlessly swaying together. You'll be transported into another new age of what past generations used to call world music.
