The interdisciplinary project Hoort mi aen brings together medieval poetry and contemporary music in a unique artistic creation. Inspired by the Gruuthuse Manuscript, an important collection of songs and poems from the 14th and 15th centuries, this performance forms a dialogue between past and present.
In this performance, original texts from the Gruuthuse manuscript are interwoven with contemporary spoken word, performed by artist Lindah Leah Nyirenda. Together, they shed new light on medieval themes such as love in all its forms, friendship, citizenship, and identity.
The selected texts also serve as the foundation for the music of Damast Duo – expanded for this occasion to a quartet – with a dialogue between medieval, Arabic, and Brazilian music.
- Shalan Alhamwy – violin & bandolim
- Jonas Malfliet – piano & accordion
- Adriaan Lauwers – lute & theorbo
- Léa Besançon – cello
- Lindah Leah Nyirenda – word

This special performance was made possible through a collaboration between Picea Orientalis, WESP, De Centrale, and Cultuurcentrum Brugge, with the support of the Flemish Community.
The concert takes place in the atmospheric Sint-Jakobskerk, a unique venue that also currently hosts the exhibition "Rumi, Say That I Am You" – a particularly fitting setting for this evocative performance.
The event is part of "Flanders Celebrates!", in honor of the Flemish Community Day on July 11th.
