18th-century music from the Peruvian Codex Trujillo
When Martínez Compañón packed his bags for Peru in 1768, he could never have imagined that his travel journal would one day become a musical treasure map. Música Temprana delves into his 18th-century notes and conjures up a whirlwind mix of tonadas, bailes, and cachuas. From spicy love songs and tales of the last Inca ruler to echoes from Africa and devout Catholic hymns: this music dances across all layers of society and gets even the most stubborn hips moving. Sitting still is not an option with this Peruvian rollercoaster.
