This bittersweet story takes place in a country wrecked by war, where people try to maintain theirselves painstakingly but inevitably. But how long can they keep up with this banal and dangerous ( sur) viving? Should they not better leave their livelihoods and possessions – house, family, friends, loved ones, and friends – behind? Fleeing the other side of the sea seems like the only trump card they still hold, hoping to regain that tiny sparkle of hope ánd their humanity.
This “silent” performance breaks with the rules of the classic puppet theatre, when even the props and part of the set start to serve as puppets. From the terrified farm animals over chatty missiles and annoying cardboard bombers to the depressed suitcase, who is completely packed and geared up, but that refuses to leave.
The piece is brought by 'The Arab Puppet Theatre Foundation', a puppet-theatre-company from Beirut ( Lebanon). Puppet players at service are Mahmoud Al-Hourani (autor/director of the piece + co-founder and director of APTF), Eyad Hourani, Mariam Balhas and Rakan El-Khalil.
