BAĞLAMA BEGINNERS & ADVANCED

Bekir Gürbüz

The bağlama is the most popular instrument in Turkish folk music. It is a long-necked lute with a gourd-shaped soundbox, a long narrow neck, and three double strings. Having your own instrument is not absolutely necessary (there are several instruments available at De Centrale), but it is certainly helpful. You’ll start by exploring the instrument, beginning with rhythm, which is the best entry point. The bağlama is more challenging than, say, percussion and requires a certain level of dexterity.

Bekir Gürbüz is an experienced musician whose life is shaped by his passion for music. He has been playing the bağlama for over 30 years and has extensive experience in teaching music. Bekir has lived in Belgium since 1993, having moved there at the age of ten. He received a comprehensive musical education at the music academy, specializing in classical piano and violin. In addition to the bağlama, he also masters several other instruments.
