ORIENTAL PERCUSSION (DARBUKA & BENDIR)

Hilde De Clercq

Darbuka
Get acquainted with the darbuka, a vase-shaped drum played by hand that plays an important role in the music of the Middle East, the Maghreb, and the Balkans. In this group course, you will learn the basic skills of the instrument. There is a strong focus on playing together and having fun. No prior musical knowledge is required; we mainly work by ear.

Bendir
The bendir is an ancient frame drum with a distinctive sound, also rooted in the rich percussion traditions of the Middle East, the Maghreb, and the Balkans. In this group lesson, you will learn the basic techniques and rhythmic patterns unique to this instrument. Here too, enjoyment and ensemble playing are central. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience — we mostly work by ear.

Hilde De Clercq is a versatile musician with a background in both Western music and Eastern percussion and singing, with a special passion for Turkish music.
