PENI CANDRA RINI & ADE SUHARTO - EUROPALIA INDONESIA

De Indonesische zangeres en componiste Peni Candra Rini heeft drie albums op haar naam staan. Ze werkte met gerenommeerde artiesten zoals Robert Wilson, Rahayu Supanggah en Iain Grandage en was al te zien op verschillende internationale muziekfestivals. Peni Candra Rini is een van de zeldzame hedendaagse zangeressen die de sindhen beheerst, een Javaanse zangstijl voor vrouwenstemmen.

Voor de voorstelling ONTOSOROH verenigt Peni haar krachten met die van de Australische danseres en choreografe Ade Suharto. Samen inspireerden ze zich op het leven van Nyai Ontosoroh, de heldin die streed tegen de koloniale machten in This Earth of Mankind, de literatuurklassieker van Pramoedya Ananta Toer. De voorstelling mixt de klassieke Javaanse dans van Ade met de traditionele en hedendaagse composities en de schitterende stem van Peni.
