WORLD MUSIC, FOLK VIOLIN & IMPROVISATION

Wouter Vandenabeele

This course is for the more advanced violinist (being able to play a simple melody by ear). All music between folk, classical, oriental and jazz is covered: Irish reels, Romanian horas, musettes, polkas, mazurkas, bourrées, lamentations from Macedonia... With a limited number of students per hour, it is possible to work quite individually. But teamwork is also essential, because the 'kick of the concert' has a motivating effect. Improvisation is important!

Wouter Vandenabeele is a violinist, composer, and artistic director of various groups and projects. He founded the ensemble Olla Vogala, which carved out a unique place in the Belgian world music scene. With his Chansonsreeks (Song Series), he showed us his more introspective side. As a musician in groups like Tamala and Liqa', encounters with other cultures and genres are at the forefront.
