Workshop w/Zeynel Demir

Dig deeper into the enchanting world of Turkish folk music with our workshop on acoustic systems and plectrum technique for the bağlama!

The bağlama is widely known as the most iconic instrument in Turkish folk music. Under various names such as cura, kopuz, tambura, and more, the bağlama is part of the same musical tradition, each with its own unique tuning variations and playing techniques.

During this workshop, we will explore a range of folk songs from various regional styles, including Zeybek, Konya, Yozgat, and more. Led by Zeynel Demir, a renowned Turkish folk musician, composer, and music educator, we will delve deeper into both the basic tunings and more specialized tuning systems such as 'bozuk düzen', 'müstezat', and 'baglama düzeni'.

Zeynel Demir, born in Erzurum and raised in a family with a rich musical tradition, continued his musical journey at Ege University, where he graduated from the State Conservatory for Turkish Music. He furthered his musical career at Codarts, in Rotterdam.  To this day, he continues his musical projects from the Netherlands
