* Labyrinth * Composition in Modal Music

w/ Ross Daly (FULL)

Ross Daly, a globally recognized authority in modal music, leads this seminar with the aim of inspiring participants to create compositions. The emphasis is on breaking traditional notions about modal music, encouraging participants to explore and apply the creative possibilities of modal music to their own artistic needs. The seminar is practical in nature, requiring a reasonable level of musical proficiency on an instrument suitable for modal music, and basic knowledge of at least one major living modal tradition (such as Raga, Makam, Dastgah, Byzantine, Ayak, etc.).

Ross Daly has dedicated his life to studying various (modal) music traditions. His exploration of modal traditions in the Middle East, Central Asia, and the Indian Subcontinent has significantly shaped and transformed his perspective on music. Over the past decades, he has been fully devoted to composition and performance, releasing more than 38 albums. As the artistic director of the cultural program for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he organized concerts featuring international musicians. Nowadays, Daly leads the 'Labyrinth Musical Workshop' in Crete and continues to actively perform.
